Self Neglect
The failure to meet basic needs which threatens the older adults health and safety. For example, the older adult refusing to take their medications, eat, or maintain proper hygiene.

What is self neglect?
For a variety of reasons, seniors themselves may fail to provide adequate care for their own needs and this form of abuse is called self-neglect.

What are some examples of self neglect?
Not eating enough food. Wearing clothes that are filthy, torn, or not suited for the weather. Living in unsanitary or hazardous conditions. Not getting medical care.

What are some of the signs of self neglect?
Changes in hygiene including looking more dishevelled, untidy or dirty.
